Dnd Notes 10-17-21 B-Team
[Peter's Notes]
Rough outline, BOLDED stuff important: Dave and Saymour lure one of the blue dragons up to the surface to fight, while the other two dragons use message on all the party members after sensing something known only to them. It seems like Phoenix is able to respond, despite the dragons only speaking in Draconic. Infaris tries to shoot a lightning-based witch bolt at the dragon, but it absorbs the damage.
Infaris’ magic surges and Phoenix acts as a conduit while talking with the dragons – as the magic surges through the little girl, her arms and half her face take on a scaly appearance with red scales appearing on her as she begins the process to become a draconic bloodline sorcerer (Adam rolled a D10 to decide on dragon element/color and just happened to roll fire!). Phoenix also ages up to 11 years old from the wild magic surge that should have hit Infaris.
Phoenix translates the messages from the dragons, saying that she has a bit of dragon power in her and they noticed that. They also say the group may take some of their treasure in exchange for awakening Phoenix. They ask Phoenix to stay with them, but both Infaris and Phoenix reject the offer.
At the behest of the dragons, Phoenix takes a sacrificial blade (solid gold, with a dragon skull carved into the hilt) that they give her and slashes at Infaris. Phoenix explains that they commanded her to do so, and she must drink the blood of another sorcerer to gain more power.
As Infaris is gathering treasure, she sees a ring and attempts to grab it as well, but one of the dragons swoops down and stops her hand. It then nods to Phoenix, who takes it and puts it on. It is a cursed Ring of Protection (+2), granting her +2 to AC but she cannot ever remove the ring. Other treasure as listed.
[Adam's Notes]
- One of the dragons flys into the "sacrificial pit", another flys to the north, the last one stays with the treasure
- Dave says, verbatim: "I like to have a good time" and runs towards a noise to the north
- Infaris uses message to communicate with Jimco about the dragons then tries to turn one of the dragons against the others but it does not succeed. The creature does not seem to understand common
- Jimco rounds the corner to see two mummies, he almost fires before noticing the short one is about the same size as Phoenix
- We decide to rush the one in the treasure room. As Jimco rushes into a room and takes cover behind a tomb he hears a voice in his head similar to Message but its just a series of growls
- Infaris tries to force lightning the dragon but it seems to have no effect
- The dragons seem to be very interested in Phoenix so Infaris casts spider walk on herself and Phoenix so they can climb to the top of the wall. They fly up to follow and seem to communicate telepathically with Phoenix
- Phoenix starts speaking tongues and dragon scales start to appear on her body. This seems to be the first time her sorceress nature manifests itself
- My magic surges and she ages up to 11
- Jimco finds several old scrolls inside a chest that is part of the dragon's hoard. Most of them are spell scrolls but one is a map to the lost city
- At the behest of the dragons, Phoenix slashes Infaris' face with a dagger and licks the blood off the knife. Infaris scolds Phoenix and insists that she not take the dragons so seriously
- Infaris climbs down to investigate the treasure, leaving Phoenix talking to the dragons. She takes a crown among the treasure, a vial of black oil, a scroll of Cause Fear and a scroll of Detect Secret Doors. Phoenix takes a magical ring that Infaris tried to take but was stopped by a dragon
- Jimco finds scolls of Bless and Expeditious Retreat, a map and another giant key.
- We leave and open a chest that was missed on the way out. Inside is a fancy instrument (a mandolin), a rolled up rug and a small pouch containing a copper scarab.
- The dragon tails us on the way out
- Phoenix has the traits of a red dragon
- Jimco casts detect magic.
- the scrolls are magic
- the scarab is not
- the ring on Phoenix is magic. Its a cursed ring of protection
- the carpet is not magic. Just wolfs hide
- The giant key is magical
- the dagger given to Phoenix is not magic, just fancy
- The map directs us to the south
